Temple Lore

It is a tradition to Worship God Vinayaga before beginning of any work following this tradition Agastheeswaram has a temple for the foremost deity Vinayaga. The temple is considered to be more than 160 years old. During the time when the temple was formed the right to build a temple for Lord Vinayaga, Siva and Murugan were restricted only to people of high caste. People belonging to low caste were not allowed to build temple. It is during this time the Nadars living in Agastheeswaram consecrated the statue of Kulasekara Vinayagar within one night. King of Thiruvidhangur who came to know about this event ordered his soldiers to stop the activities at temple and to punish the nadars for their action. When the king?s soldier reached the temple deepa aradhanai pooja was performed to God Vinayaga. On hearing from his soldiers that the construction of temple is finished and poojas were performed to God Vinayaga he stopped taking any stringent action and left the temple continue its divine work
