Genesis of International Community Social Welfare Sangam
On 7th February, 2010, centenary celebrations of Nadar Mahajana sangam was held in Porayar. This is to honour Porayar T.Rathinsami Nadar who founded the Nadar Mahajana Sangam in 1910 with the first conference held at Porayar to improve the social status of the community. The cost of loding and dining was met by T.Rathinasami Nadar. Porayar V. Ponnusami nadar was elected the President of the Sangam.Due to the sudden demise of founder the Sangam did not take further growth until 1917. During 1917 and 1918 the 3rd and 4th Annual plenary sessions were organized at Madurai at the initiative of K M A Vadivel Muruga Nadar.
In 1918 K M A Vadivel Muruga Nadar took steps to register the Sangam under Societies Act. Sri Ramalinga Gurukkal formulated the rules and regulations for the Sangam.
The success of Nadar Mahajan Sangam ecouraged the founding Travancore Hindu Nadars Association in about 1917.
In 1918 Hindu Nadar Mahajana Sabaha was established in Rangoon by merchants and traders to feed the poor and promote the advancement of the soceity in the public interest. K C Sangaralinga Nadar was a very dyanamic person in Rangoon, Burma in Malaysia and was instrumental in uniting the Tamil community at Rangoon in 1920s to organize Nadar Sangam and Tamil Sangam in Rangoon. Later in 1930 he shifted back to India and took active role in community development.
In 1918, in the former Ceylon (Srilanka) Indiya Kshathriya kula Nadar Mahajana Sangam was founded for the welfare of the community.
In 1925, Nadars in Malaya (Malaysia) founded the Nadar Paribalana Sangam (Nadar Protection Association) .
1942, Dakshina Mara Nadar Sangam (DMNS) came into an organized association for managing Nadar Pettais with the its first conference held in 1946. Dakshina Mara Nadar Sangam was instrumental in developing in several pettais for trade promotion in south tamilnadu. Nadars of Arumuganeri, Attur, Eral, Thiruchendur actively participated in the growth of DMNS. Raja Palavesamuthu Nadar took very keen efforts for its growth.
Several monthly community magazines, weekly issues and daily newspaper issues were brought out to promote the social welfare of the community and society at large.
A reference list of such books, articles, magazines, newspapers are available which created motivation for upward mobility of the society and establishment of public institutions by the community.
